Newt Gingrich on President Obama’s job policies (11/2/11):
“This country has been maniacally anti-jobs. Obama is a left-wing radical who believes in class warfare and then he’s surprised that everybody who he’s attacking doesn’t create jobs.
Newt Gingrich on Occupy Wall Street demonstrators (11/19/11):
“That is a pretty good symptom of how much the left has collapsed as a moral system in this country, and why you need to reassert something by saying to them, ‘Go get a job right after you take a bath.”
I’ve previously blogged about this subject, but I think it’s worth re-examination because the moral quackery is revolting. On display above are the incompatible viewpoints that are simultaneously held by Newt Gingrich and other conservative politicians when talking about the economy. In the first statement, Gingrich argues that our country’s high unemployment rate is due to “left-wing” economic policies put in place by the Obama Administration. In the second, Gingrich chastises OWS protesters for being unemployed and tells them to “get a job”.
It leads to two conflicting explanations of our economy/OWS:
- The OWS protesters are unemployed because of Obama’s “anti-jobs” policies, or
- The economy under Obama has many jobs available but the OWS protesters are just lazy
Which one is it Newt?
The problem, of course, is that when there is a steady 9% unemployment rate and very few jobs to be had, you sound like a complete douche as you pretentiously tell somebody to “get a job.”
