As the hours passed by today, I just couldn’t stop thinking about the madness that must exist in the Washington Times newsroom that would compel them to publish a whacko conspiracy by an anonymous source “who is friends with the Cain campaign” asserting that Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago – of all people – was the brains behind the leaking news story of Herman Cain’s past sexual harassment settlements.
I just could not understand why they would publish such a ludicrous claim that could clearly not be backed up by any evidence. Moreover, with the allegations that have come up in the past week against Cain, as well as the meandering and changing versions of the story that he has given to the press, how could anybody consider a Cain campaign “friend” to have any legitimacy when they are trying to diffuse Cain’s responsibility by pointing fingers at the closest object that moves.
Anyways, with the sensationalized Yellow Journalism that defines American news media right now, the natural succession of these types of claims are for other news organizations to jump in line and spread the “news” and report the same thing. At the time of writing this, a Google News search of “Rahm Emanuel Herman Cain” returns with over 500 articles. It goes without saying that many of these articles seek to shed light on the absurdity of this claim, but many of them just regurgitate it word-for-word, as if it really took an anonymous source risking life and limb to come up with this shocking revelation that Rahm was behind it all!
