Out of Step

From a recent Bloomberg News Poll (10/11/2011):

More than two-thirds of Americans, including a majority of Republicans, say wealthier people should pay more in taxes to bring down the budget deficit, and even larger numbers think Medicare and Social Security benefits should be left alone.

On the day that President Obama’s Job Proposal is to be voted on in the senate, the majority of the American people – even Republicans – agree with the premise that the wealthy need to be taxed more in order to lower the deficit. Unfortunately, the United States Congress does not represent the majority of the American people and will surely fail to pass Obama’s Job bill because it places a surtax on those who earn more than 1 million dollars a year to offset the cost of creating jobs. They can’t do that to millionaires.
