Newspaper articles are generally written at a 9th grade level of comprehension, so it’s starting to become a little bit eerie to see the word “intransigent” being used in abundance by the news media to describe the inflexibility of Republican politicians. What isn’t shocking, though, are the knee-jerk reactions that the GOP presidential candidate field has had towards Obama’s jobs proposal. Here’s a sampling of some of their obstructionist reflexes:
Michele Bachmann: A “temporary gimmick,” “political circus,” “nothing more than a political speech” (CBS)
Jon Huntsman: “@BarackObama’s tired rhetoric & failed policies haven’t worked. My plan will actually create jobs.” (Jon Huntsman Twitter)
Rick Perry: “President Obama’s call for nearly a half-trillion dollars in more government stimulus when America has more than $14 trillion in debt is guided by his mistaken belief that we can spend our way to prosperity.” (NY Mag)
Mitt Romney: “Mr. President, you are 960 days late” (video)
Rick Santorum: “Many say the President is a failure, but I disagree — he’d have to improve a whole lot to even be considered a failure.” (Daily Caller)
