Washington D.C. Unmanned Forever By Snow?

Liberals bloggers would have you believe that the reason why government has come to a crushing, grinding halt in recent months is the unprecedented obstructionism of Republicans in the Senate. Or, specifically, their rampant abuse of the filibuster, so that 60 votes are now required for virtually every single piece of legislation in the Senate.

Don’t you believe a word of it. Government has come to a crushing, grinding halt, because Washington is entirely populated by two types of men: total wimps and girly men.

This morning, federal government offices will be slow to come back to life after the long weekend:

Washington area federal offices will be open under a delayed arrival/unscheduled leave policy on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Employees should plan to arrive for work no more than 2 hours later than they would normally arrive, and employees who cannot report for work may take unscheduled leave.

Yes, Washington D.C. got some major snow this month. Around 40 inches, give or take, over a 6-day period. But the last snow was six days ago, on Wednesday, February 10. Federal offices reopened on Friday the 12th (on the same late arrival basis). And, yes, that wasn’t exactly a pretty commuting day, but three whole days have elapsed since then. Three days, during which people all over the city went about their normal business.

But in the judgment of the federal government bureaucracy, employees still need extra time to get to work this morning?

The intrepid 1115 fly-on-the-wall army of snoopsters is starting to pick up chatter about al-Qaeda’s latest strategy. While nothing has been finalized yet, a special sub-committee of al-Qaeda #3s is slated to recommend next week that the weapon of choice be switched from bombs (which don’t always cooperate by exploding) to anonymous letters mailed from time to time to selected Washington kingpins containing the single word: “SNOW!” The rationale, apparently, is that Washington kingpins can be counted on to cooperate by imploding.
