I’m not sure how many people know this, but 1115.org was started to address the nightmare that was the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election where Gray Davis was thrown out and replaced with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It’s been hard to cover California politics over this time as supermajority requirements on budget bills have forced the state into somewhat of a permanent crisis that makes it difficult to continue paying attention. The rest of this year should be somewhat interesting as two former McCain-for-President advisers (Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina) who couldn’t quite keep their feet out of their respective (each others?) mouths are running for Governor (Whitman) and Senator (Fiorina).
Whitman has been using her personal fortune to ruin my Winter Olympics viewing experience, repeatedly running the following ad during NBC‘s coverage:
The professional politicians have been fighting [giggles] in Sacramento for years, and the state is in the worst shape that I’ve seen in the many years that I have lived in California.
Really, Meg? Professional politicians like…Arnold Schwarzenegger?
