Obama: Seat Scott Brown and Health Care Next Steps – ABC News (1/20/10):

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: So how do you do it now? This strategy that a lot of people have talked about getting the House to pass the Senate bill. Speaker Pelosi yesterday seemed to say that this was kind of a non-starter.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, here’s , here’s one thing I know and I just want to make sure that this is off the table. The Senate certainly shouldn’t try to jam anything through until Scott Brown is seated. People in Massachusetts spoke. He’s got to be part of that process.

Double Standard For Bernanke: Only 50 Votes Needed In Senate – HuffPo (1/26/10):

Democratic leaders in the Senate are asking colleagues who are reluctant to support Bernanke’s nomination for a second term as Federal Reserve chairman to nevertheless vote with them to end a filibuster and allow a vote on the actual nomination. The reluctant members would then be free to vote no to express their displeasure. Several Democrats have committed to just that and others are considering it.

Senate Lifts Federal Debt Ceiling By $1.9 Trillion – AP (1/28/10)

Senate Democrats needed all the 60 votes at their disposal Thursday to muscle through legislation allowing the government to go $1.9 trillion deeper in debt.

Democratic leaders were able to prevail on the politically volatile 60-39 vote only because Republican Sen.-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts has yet to be seated. Republicans had insisted on a 60-vote, super-majority threshhold to pass the measure. An earlier test vote succeeded on a 60-40 vote.

UPDATE 7:00 am PST:
Another 60/40 vote pre-Brown seating: Restoring PAYGO budget rules.

So the Senate shouldn’t try to jam anything through except a Fed Chair, the national debt ceiling, and rules that will cover every spending bill that passes through Congress.

It’s almost as if the President is a total fucking hypocrite.
