Where God Appears To Michael Steele, And One Of Them Has Fun

(1)
Yesterday, E. J. Dionne offered up this phrase to describe the routine political posturings of Republicans: “the audacity of audacity“.

Right on cue, RNC chairman Michael Steele stepped up to provide a perfect example:

As we celebrate (Dr. King’s) legacy, I’m reminded that his message is rooted in ideals and principles that the Republican Party has advocated since its inception.

Ah yes, Martin Luther King was a Republican at heart. And the Republican Party’s agenda was practically ghostwritten by Dr. King.

I have it on good authority that last night, as Michael Steele was climbing into bed, God appeared unto him.

And asked him gently: “My son, did you speak these words: “As we celebrate his legacy, I’m reminded that his message is rooted in ideals and principles that the Republican Party has advocated since its inception.

Steele’s involuntary reply: “Oh my God!”

Unruffled, God continued: “Then you will no doubt be pleased to learn that in celebration of Martin Luther King day, I have decided to grant victory in the Massachusetts special election tomorrow to the party that truly embodies the ideals and principles that Dr. King dedicated his whole life to.”

What Michael Steele said in response is best left unsaid.
