The ISI/military doesn't seem to run the Supreme Court, so I don't think they engineered this opportunity. Now that it exists, they can certainly use it to force him out. The Taliban, though, by all accounts has become extremely unpopular in Pakistan in the last few months. It wouldn't be politically astute for the military to try to bring in a new soft-on-the-Taliban government.

A few months ago, there was a article in an Indian newspaper (I wish I could find it again) that said that the ISI/military were planning to do exactly this. Using democracy to checkmate Zardari, and maybe force him out of office, because they don't like the aggressive crackdown on the Pakistani Taliban is a brilliant move on their part.
