Now that Joe Lieberman seems to have finished having his way with the healthcare reform bill, the natural question is: who goes next?
If the rumors circulating last night are true, and Medicare expansion has indeed been pulled from the bill to mollify Lieberman, there are now 59 votes for cloture. So now Harry Reid needs to win over either Ben Nelson — who has performed his part of the mating dance by leaving yesterday’s caucus meeting early, “telling reporters he remained undecided” — or Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. How will their ransom notes read?
And after Reid has finished diluting the bill for one of them, will Lieberman be back saying “Please sir, I want some more”?
