Public Policy Polling reports:
A new Public Policy Polling survey concludes that “liberal unhappiness with Barack Obama is still largely anecdotal and not very widespread” after finding that 95% of liberal Democrats approve of the president and 3% disapprove.
I find that literally unbelievable. I cannot believe that 95% of all Democrats approve of the job Obama is doing, let alone 95% of liberal Democrats. (In fact, I’m not sure I believe that 95% of any non-trivial subset of Democrats approves of anything.)
This post at Public Policy Polling, by the way, does not provide any further details, including how the question was worded or how large the sample of liberal Democrats was. Maybe “approve of the president” doesn’t mean anything like “approve of the job the president is doing”?
Presumably we will have more details at some point.
*** Update, 8:54 a.m. ***
The Public Policy Polling post linked to above is timestamped 4:08 p.m. on December 9. I found a December 9 press release for a Public Policy Polling survey (pdf). This does seem to pertain to the survey referred to in the post. But this press release does not provide any results for a “Liberal Democrats” sub-sample.
I’m not the only one looking for the underlying results and failing to find them. (If you click on the last link, be warned that they were confused by the survey document. It was 18% of the entire national sample (of 1,253 registered voters) that identified themselves as liberal, not 18% of Democrats.)
*** Update #2, 9:10 a.m. ***
For what it’s worth, the question was:
Do you approve or disapprove of Barack Obama’s job performance? If you approve, press 1. If you disapprove, press 2. If you’re not sure, press 3.
92% of those who say they voted for Obama approve of his job performance. Also, 87% of liberals and 83% of Democrats. Like I said, no reported results for liberal Democrats.
