Daily Kos: Weekly Tracking Poll: New Feature Paints Ugly 2010 Picture

Voter Intensity: Definitely+Probably Voting / Not Likely+Not Voting

Republican Voters: 81/14
Independent Voters: 65/23
Democratic Voters: 56/40

This is what happens when you trick people into voting for you based on the false idea that you’re a progressive. This is what happens when you promise change and then deliver more of the same on banking, state secrets, Guantanamo, perpetual wars, etc. This is what happens when you refuse to prosecute or even investigate people involved in the torture regime. This is what happens when you break all your promises to the GLBT community. This is what happens when you sell out labor on card check. This is what happens when you take single-payer off the table before the health care debate even begins, and then negotiate away the effectiveness of an already weak-ass public option. This is what happens when you surround yourself with people who value Wall Street over people who produce things. This is what happens when you rush to bail out the people who brought down the economy while skimping on the stimulus that should have been much bigger and more targeted. This is what happens when you sit on your hands as unemployment goes over 10% and underemployment heads towards 20%. This is what happens when you know how to campaign, but know nothing about governing and even less about practical politics. This is what happens when you try to appease the insane third of the country who will never vote for you and will never stop trying to push you out of office over enacting policies you promised to the people who actually voted for you. The story isn’t the 40% of Democrats who say they won’t vote, it’s the 56% who say they will! WTF do they think they are voting for?

Democrats are going to pay a terrible price for all of this. Even if a third of the 40% of Democrats who say they won’t vote end up voting, it will be a rout. I suspect polling numbers like this will get worse, and will result in even more running to the center. If I seem even more bitter than usual, it’s because I have been writing about this kind of bad politics/bad policy for six fucking years. I have been warning about Obama’s flawed thinking for five fucking years. For my trouble I have been laughed at, called a racist on multiple occasions, and told that I should leave it to the professionals.

Guess who’s laughing now.
