Depends on the Definition of Change
by matt at 9:59 pm on November 26th, 2009 in Depends on the Definition of ChangeJosh Marshall links to this WaPo story and entitles it “Change”:
The new policy — issued with little fanfare this fall by the White House ethics counsel — may turn out to be the most far-reaching lobbying rule change so far from President Obama, who also has sought to restrict the ability of lobbyists to get jobs in his administration and to negotiate over stimulus contracts.
Josh apparently had too much turkey, and forgot that Tim Geithner and Larry Summers are running the country. WTF difference does it make what lobbyists are doing what when Timmeh and Larry are funneling billions of dollars to Goldman Sachs and Citibank? The scale of what lobbyists can chisel vs. just making good on AIG counterparty risk to Goldman is a total mismatch, a rounding error. And that’s not even getting into all the rest of the bailouts. But Josh thinks he found a little bit of that elusive “change.”
Heckuva job, Joshie!

“Ha! Were Tim Geithner and Larry Summers running the country last year? That’s change right there!”
But no one can argue with a straight face that Hank Paulson handing over to Geithner/Summers constitutes change.
