Perhaps you too have been confused by how Obama‘s thoughtful critics on the right (and not just the extreme right, either) can accuse him simultaneously of being a Nazi and a Communist?

The brilliant and thoughtful conservative speaker Kitty Werthmann appeared at the How To Take Back America Conference over the weekend, evidently just to clear up this matter. And, leading a workshop called “How to recognize living under Nazis & Communists,” clear it up she did, succinctly and brilliantly:

So, keep your guns, and buy more guns, and buy ammunition. [...] Take back America. Don’t let them take the country into Socialism. And I refer again, Hitler’s party was National Socialism. [...] And that’s what we are having here right now, which is bordering on Marxism.

I’m looking for a word here, but I’m not sure it exists. What is to conflation, as tsunami is to a gently lapping tide?

In case you were wondering why Werthmann can’t talk and make sense at the same time, she’s the South Dakota President for Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum.

We cannot be sure, but we can make an educated guess that what gave Obama away to Werthmann. Perhaps, when we are able to examine a full transcript of Werthmann’s speech, we will find she also referred to the German Democratic Republic (aka East Germany) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (aka North Korea).

Werthmann has obviously discovered the significance of the fact that Obama’s party is the Democratic party (unless, in Werthmann-speak, we are require to refer again that Obama’s party is Democracy, or should that be Democratism?). Obviously, only Hardened Communists embrace the Democratic brand name.
