This cartoon by Bruce Beattie, in The Daytona Beach News-Journal, appeared last Monday, well before Sarah Palin‘s surprise announcement. Otherwise it might have ended “or resign midway through your term for no apparent reason…”

The fact remains that Palin (or her spokesmen) has given no coherent reason for her resignation, and nobody has any idea why she needed to resign in such a hurry on Friday that the news came as a complete surprise to her father-in-law, who only heard about it after the fact:

“Wow!” he said after reading the bulletin on his email. “We had no idea it was coming. Nobody seemed to know; they’re extremely private people.”

If today doesn’t bring some major revelation which clears up the whole mystery, then Palin is an even bigger fool than everybody previously suspected.
