The wimps in Washington, D.C. have cheerfully confirmed a tax evader as Treasury of the Secretary.
I guess we can all stop worrying. The uniquely qualified Timothy Geithner will now, before our very eyes, single-handedly rescue the economy from a fate worse than death.
Any day now, banks will turn the corner, and the economy will bounce back.
Or, at least that’s what the wimps in Washington told themselves with a straight face as they closed their eyes, held their noses and voted to confirm Geithner, 60 to 34.
Ten Republicans voted for Geithner.
Three Democrats — Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Tom Harkin of Iowa — voted against him, as did independent Bernard Sanders of Vermont.
In addition to Ted Kennedy, two Democrats did not vote: Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Ron Wyden of Oregon.
