Picking Our Pockets On The Way Out

As you are probably aware, after President Barack Obama‘s inauguration, George and Laura Bush were flown by Marine helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base, from where they flew to Midland, Texas.

What you probably didn’t know was that they took a few friends and family and loyal supporters with them on the flight.

The Washington Times (no doubt on the principle that the less we know, the better off we all are) discreetly reported this as:

The Bushes were accompanied on the flight by daughters Barbara and Jenna and a few longtime confidants, including former White House adviser Karl Rove.

The list actually included:

…the former president’s mother and father and daughters Jenna and Barbara, Karl Rove, Karen Hughes, Dan Bartlett, Josh Bolten, Joel Kaplan, Jared Weinstein, Mike Meece, Andy Card, Don and Susie Evans, Blake Gottesman, Clay and Ann Johnson, Ed Gillespie, Barry Jackson, Joe Hagin, Israel Hernandez, Jeanne Johnson Phillips, Margaret Spellings, Alberto Gonzales, Brad Freeman, Jim and Debbie Francis, and Roland and Lois Betts.

That’s 29 people, and it’s just a partial list. Mark McKinnon, who blogged an account of the flight, was there too. And although his post does not make it clear, it sounds like the guest list may well have run to a hundred people.

A hundred people. At our expense. At a time when the economy is reeling from everything that Bush did to it for the last eight years. That’s in very poor taste, to say the least.

Amazing how the left will grab at any thread to condem the evil Bush. Poor taste, how do you feel about the 170 million spent in Washington? Oh yeah that was ok because the chose one spent it. The flight home is a gift from one administration to the other, and paid for by the new president. Bush paid for the full load of thieves that were flown to Little Rock, you remember, the ones that stold almost everything not nailed down on the plane, but I guess that was ok . . . get real about the world , these kind of comments disgust even me

God, just reading that list, it’s almost like a final FU to the nation. Have a giant house party on a helicopter or something. I can’t wait until people just stop caring about Bush and we can focus on making America better. I think this clip says it best.

We have a left agenda media here too. They never let facts get in the way of a good story!!!!!
I have to say from an outsider, the left bashing Bush on CNN repeatedly is quite embarrassing. How quickly we forget when times are good,eh!!!!
Good luck with Obama, nice man, shady administration!!!

Shouldn’t you just be glad he left and took nearly all his friends with him? If they were going to use the plane anyway, better to have it full than a whole plane for two people.

Politicians would love to apply your logic to free plane rides they cadge from lobbyists.

Petty abuses of power and privilege remain petty abuses of power and privilege.

If you think about it, it was probably greener to have everyone on the same flight than for them to make individual arrangements in cars and other planes. In this case, the plane was already making the flight. I doubt it burnt much more fuel just because there were additional people on board.

  8. sarabeth says:

Great, let’s allow politicians to carpool and airpool with lobbyists, then, shall we?

Good riddance to bad rubbish! Too bad the plane didn’t go further than Texas.
