AP source: Rep. Hilda Solis is Obama’s labor pick AP (12/18/08)

A labor official says Rep. Hilda Solis of California will be nominated as labor secretary by President-elect Barack Obama.

The Democratic congresswoman was just elected to her fifth term representing heavily Hispanic portions of eastern Los Angeles County and east L.A. She is the daughter of Mexican and Nicaraguan immigrants and has been the only member of Congress of Central American descent.

Solis is genuinely liberal, good on all the important issues. I can’t figure out why David Bonior didn’t take the job, but Solis is a welcome pick. Gonna be real lonely in that Cabinet room, though.

Final Cabinet score: 3 Republicans (Gates, Jones, LaHood), 1 Liberal (Solis). Heckuva job.

    barack obama makes me sick to my stomach. he is opposed to nearly every issue i hold dear, including the more “mainstream” issues like gay marriage, marijuana decriminalization, etc. he’s a piece of trash, i can’t believe how wasted this opportunity is going to have been. people wanted something different, the only thing different is this guy’s skin color. whoopty-fucking-dee.

    Fighting for the “working man” is only worthwhile if that man actually works.

    Strong unions are not the answer. Working people need to be rewarded when they do a good job and work hard. Not because they are in union. Unions bring companies down because too many people take advantage of them. They collect higher salaries while contributing very little to the company. This is the reason the automobile companies are going bankrupt right now.
