The accounts of John “No Shame” McCain, Sarah “Even Less” Palin and their campaign and surrogates actively whipping up anti-Obama hate frenzies at public meetings continue unabated.
They seem to have deliberately, as a matter of conscious campaign strategy, adopted the tone of the more irresponsibly strident right-wing talk-show-radio hosts. They’re pandering, in the basest possible way, to what the NYT described as “race-baiting and xenophobia”. That’s a very volatile mixture to be playing around with so irresponsibly.
It doesn’t look like McCain and Palin have retained enough of the moral sanity that they presumably once possessed to consider even for a moment that there are a hell of a lot of really crazy people out there. If McCain and Palin continue to stoke irrational fears and hatred in such people, it is certainly not a remote possibility that this country could witness yet another political assassination.
Have McCain and Palin really not even stopped to consider the consequences of their culpability if that happens?
If they have, how could they possibly continue going down this road?
Who are these people? How can any sane, thinking person even be contemplating voting for them? Are more than 40% of Americans really going to endorse this unconscionable evil with their votes?
