Giving Seersucker A Bad Name
by matt at 6:00 am on October 9th, 2008 in Congressional Man DateNorm Coleman (R-MN) has gotten himself into a bit of trouble over whether or not a campaign contributor purchased some suits for the Senator in violation of Senate ethics rules:
“Is there a reason that the senator won’t say whether or not someone else bought some suits for him?†asked Rachel Stassen-Berger of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
“Rachel, the senator has reported every gift he has ever received,†Sheehan said.
“That wasn’t my question, Cullen,†Stassen-Berger said.
“The senator has reported every gift he has ever received,†Sheehan said.
After a few more minutes of similar volleying with other reporters, I said to Sheehan, “Cullen, if the senator did nothing wrong and that is what you are saying, then just tell us that and the issue will go away.â€
“The senator has reported every gift he has ever received,†he replied.
The video of this absurd exchange is here:
Funny that suits might be Coleman’s undoing. After all, he’s been a regular participant in the Senate’s seersucker day:

(That’s Coleman on the right.)
As the proud owner of a seersucker suit, I can say I’m rooting for Al Franken to take Coleman down next month.
