Back-To-Back Votes In The House
by sarabeth at 11:38 am on September 29th, 2008 in Congressional Man Date, EconomyNever seen nor heard the like before. The bailout bill failed in the House, 228 to 205 (due to Republican opposition).
The Congress has just voted down the proposed bipartisan bailout package. 95 Democrats and 133 Republicans rejected the plan. The vote failed in part because the Republican leadership failed to deliver the 70-100 votes needed from the conservative side. Before the vote, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) implored his GOP colleagues to vote in favor of the negotiated bailout proposal, almost breaking down into tears. … When asked what might happen if the $700 billion dollar rescue plan failed to pass, billionaire investor Warren Buffett said today, “Heaven help us.â€
And so they are going to take up the same bill again, very soon. Just in case 12 people suddenly want to change their vote from no to yes.

True Americans and Middle class should never support this bill at all. This bill is nothing but a gimmick of Bush policies to help rescue pay-rolls of corporate CEOs, and provide them job security.

America is way too capitalist to easily pass this so-called ‘bailout’. We should realize what this ‘rescue package’ really is – a nail in the coffin of free market, and a firm pillar in the foundation of laying down a classic Marxist American economy, in line with the global push for a global socialist secular state.
But how long can hardcore Americans fight the rising tide? Not long. So this economic revolution will be accomplished, and then it’s bye bye to the real spirit of free marker capitalism as we have known it over the past 100 years. And I cringe to think even the media has buried its head as to the real agenda lurking slyly below the rising tide.
I acknowledge that the roller coaster corporate world needs a heavy dose of social conscience, but state intervention is never a good thing. Isn’t the Republicans supposed to be about lesser government?
As to Obama having a solution, well I seriously doubt that. Obama’s genius is not in originality, but in consensus building. And what America and the world need is genius – originality of thinking, not politicians looking to please people to win votes. The economic crisis is exposing the glaring lack of courageous leadership in this courageous land – a sad thing for the world community.

The irony of this blame-game is that neither side knows what it’s blaming the other side for. The Chicken Little speeches about how we must act before the skies falls on us all hasn’t done much to persuade many. The American public didn’t want this bail-out. Conservative free-marketers didn’t want it because it would be an unprecedented government intrusion into the financial market. Liberal democrats didn’t want it because there wasn’t any real protection for the individual homeowner and too much for big boys. It just slays me that we, as a nation, haven’t even decided whether the bailout was a good thing, yet we are so darn quick to point fingers at the other guy for tanking it. If it turns out that we didn’t need it, those who get blamed now (Reps or Dems) should be heralded as heroes. But I’ve noticed that the public and pundits have short memories. I don’t care if you’re Al Franken, Amy Goodwin, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity. You are apparently free to take a staunch position today that is completely inconsistent with the staunch position you took last week, and no one will call you out on it. Figure out whether you wanted this bill before you decide someone should be “blamed” for tanking it.

I have to ask who have you been listening to or reading the last year?
Plenty of original ideas fall out of Obama’s mouth
you need to pay attention

How about we rid America of the Party system that way people vote on convictions of what people think are right instead of they should vote because of what party they belong to. As the bill stands I am against it, but I am fed up with how often progress gets caught up in gridlock because of Democrats vs Republicans. The last few years have become rediculous….you can blame the Bush administration all you want…or you can take a serious long look in the mirror and stop playing the blame game. Put country first.

WHAT kind of statement is that????
Haaron, I am so sick and tired of any other American who feels that they can in any way question me as an American because of my political convictions or stands. It is simply pathetic and so utterly UN-american. Read your constitution and Bill of Rights dude. Yuk.
And yuk on the McCain spin campaign. No one is injecting politics into this extremely dire moment of American history as Senator McCain. Here is a news flash. We have a President, we have Speakers of both the House and the Senate. It is their jobs to make this happen – and yes, as much as I regret and am utterly angry about the situation we need action. Now. It is not for Senator McCain or Obama to inject their campaigns – to show off as ‘leaders’ right now. We simply have no time for it. The DOW just fell more than ever seen in our entire history. That would be a worse scenario than black monday during the great depression. As of the morning in Europe banks started closing there too. This is as serious as it gets. Americans read your history books – get a grip of the life and very very hard times that a passing generation made it through in the 30’s and 40’s – desperation that set-off World War II. This is ugly, beyond ugly.

Thank you to the Democratic Jackass in Congress, namely the Speaker of the House, who can’t seem to keep from braying when it really counts. Her real concern was protecting her party instead of the interest of the country by trying to make a political speech at the worst time. And they said McCain was acting political last week when he came back to do his job as a US Senator and, partake in the discussions, as hopefully, the next president of the US. I wish the Liberals would crate her up like the sour grapes that she is and send her back to California where they must care what she thinks.
I praise John McCain, that he would rather “lose an election than the economy” when he suspended his campaign to go back to Washington and put the brakes on this bill. It was 3 pages to begin with. At least he was a voice for the House Republicans, and, apparently Mainstreet, who does not want this bill either.

The Dems control both houses. Why didn’t they pass the bill? Obviously because they are afraid to take the blame. On the next vote, tie up Palosi, at least until the House vote is completed.

Well, Prez.Bush will make a pitch for bailout again on Tue, 9/30 – It’s sad that the top guy in the world does not understand the word “NO”. We the people do not want Wall Street bailout. Just to give a scale of the bailout, $700B amounts to $2300 per each man, woman and child in this country. And for Iraq war that takes some $10B per month – this is the cost of nearly SIX years of Iraq war. Oh, I get it now, we are six years into this war already and have to foot the bill.

For Kevin:
1st: McSame didn’t “suspend” anything–all his commercials still aired; he didn’t return to DC until 36 hours after he made his melodramatic announcement; he gave interviews to CBS and others; he went out to dinner with Lieberman and their wives; he did pretty much all his talking by phone; he spent more time at his VA home than in the Capitol.
2nd: If the Repugs voted against the bill because their feelings were hurt by da Big, Mean Lady, well for Christ’s sake, grow up, grow a pair, and get over yourselves.
3rd: McSame’s politicization of the process harmed it terribly, even though he did NOTHING but muddy the waters with his histrionics. Seriously, McSame can bitch and whine just as well as Pelosi.
