WTF?
by matt at 12:30 pm on September 24th, 2008 in 2008 Presidential, Congressional Man Date, Economy, St. John McCainMcCain seeks to delay debate – MSNBC (9/24/08):
Republican John McCain said Wednesday he is directing his staff to work with Democrat Barack Obama’s campaign and the presidential debate commission to delay Friday’s debate because of the economic crisis.
In a statement, McCain said he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Clinton’s Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation’s financial problems.
This is a stunt, and a transparent one at that. The idea of a man who openly admits he doesn’t know anything about economics riding to the rescue is obviously absurd. But this is trouble for Congressional Dems. They can’t be seen as giving money to Wall Street if McCain and a majority of Republicans oppose it. People are telling me I have this wrong, and that’s possible. We’ll see in a few days.
Update: I just figured out what McCain is doing. It’s like his view of how to win in Iraq:
“One of the things I would do if I were President would be to sit the Shiites and the Sunnis down and say, ‘Stop the bullshit.’”
He’s going to the Senate to do the same to his colleagues.

I truly believe that this is the worst political decision made by any politician in a very long time. WE WANT the DEBATE. McCain – be a man – and go to the debate and let us hear your views. Trying to opt out at such a critical time shows cowardness on your part, an unwillingness to recognize the hard work of everyone who has worked to prepare the debate, and disrespect for the American public and others like myself in other countries who take a keen interest in US Politics. I think Wall Street needs to be put in its place. Why are we bailing out all of the brokers and upper crust of the economy? To bad, for years you made money off of the regular people, time to pay it back.
I have sat and watched both candidates and I do not think that Obama is what this country needs right now. He is a 1/2 term senator who has very high ambitions to be a president. I think he needs a little more time in Congress and then may make a good president one day. McCain would also not be my first choice but he is a little more tempered in politics and would be respected in other countries. His choice of a running mate leaves a little to be desired as I think she is also not ready for the job.

How does McCain canceling the debate help the crisis in any way? Yeah, he is a senator and his job is to vote and make good decisions for the country. If he can’t do that (or Obama either) what kind of president would either of them make? I can read, and write, I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I can learn about issues while doing other things. So can these fellows. They are educated after all. They did take more than one course at a time in school.
I think the McCain thing is a ploy to avoid the debate and the crisis is being seriously overblown for political reasons. You know the con game, “Look over here!”, while someone lifts your wallet. We’ve seen politicians do that in the past and are paying for it. How long will they play the same con game?
Remember the first day of the Republican Convention? They canceled that too, to help the “victims” of the hurricane. Isn’t it interesting how we do NOT hear any results of that! Who was helped by it? How were they helped?
It breaks down to credibility and accountability. In my mind the Republican Party has neither anymore because they have played too many stunts too many times.
“Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on ME!”
The American people have got to stop playing the fool to these guys.

FIrst of all, neither John McCain or Senator Obama are on the “negotiation committee” in regards to the Bail Out crisis. This crisis did NOT just happen yesterday people. John McCain who has been known as “Mr. Deregulatory” KNEW this crisis was happening way before last Monday. The fact that he claims now to want to “RUSH” back to Washington when he hasn’t been in Washington since last April is absurd. He is NOT the President, nor is he the Chairman of the Banking Committee. The only vote needed from either John McCain or Sen. Obama is a YES or NO vote when the bill enters Congress.
The fact that John McCain is behaving like he’s the Knight on a White Horse and he’s going to save the nation from the Bail Out is ignorant on all levels. He has NO authority on any of the negotiations going on. As a matter of FACT, Washington told him they rather he did NOT show up because it would only cause major distractions to the serious negotiations being played out.
The fact that Mr. “Straight Talk” Express has proven his total incompetence when it comes to being able to “multi-tasks” is beyond belief. If John McCain CAN’T even handle these crisis, WHAT make you think he can handle any crisis as the next President. This is EXACTLY what being President is ALL about. YOU have to be able to manage a variety of crisis and still keep a “cool and intelligent” head on your shoulders. John McCain can’t seem to handle the pressure. He’s done NOTHING but use this Bail Out crisis as a “POLITICAL GIMMICK”!!! This is NOT about country FIRST. John McCain has NO authority when it comes to any negotiations regarding the Bail Out. Why he’s claiming like he’s the “Messiah” of the Bail Out crisis is just another political postering by McCain himself. He has NOT suspended his campaign because he’s doing interviews with Katie Couric, he’s speaking at Clinton’s Global Initiative, etc. There’s NO suspension here. This is just a “bogus” claim by John McCain. McCain is hoping to stall the lead Sen. Obama has in the swing states and in the polls AND he’s trying to dick and dodge tomorrow’s debate!!
If you look at historic Presidential Debates, there’s NEVER been a Presidential debate that was postponed or rescheduled and there were world “crisis” going on during those debates as well.
So for John McCain to use the Bail Out as a means of getting out of a Presidential Debate clearly proves he is unable to manage more than one crisis at a time. As President, you don’t have the luxury of picking “which” crisis you want to deal with and leave the rest on the side. Are you kidding me? If John McCain can’t handle the pressures then maybe he should suspend his campaign permanently. Rather than making up political excuses, John McCain should just MAN UP and debate Sen. Obama tomorrow and stop “hiding behind” the guise of the Bail Out. Because we ALL know he has NO authority or negotiating clout when it comes to the Bail Out!!!

Rob…its nice that you had the opportunity to attend college and create your fortune. Its nice that you possess the intellect and wherewithall to complete your degree and progress through a nice career. However, it was the Democrats who passed PELL grants, student loans and scholarships for the underpriviledged. The Repubs either voted against it or railed at how it would water down the education system. Repubs are for wealthy people…period. Make no mistake about it. If you suddenly lost your fortune and needed assistance, you can bet some Repub would call you lazy as well.

McCain who admits to being no Economist is all of a sudden desperately needed to go fix the Economy !! Lmao, ! It’s amazing how many people are actually defending this crap. I guess that if you say the magic words “Country first” it doesn’t matter what you do. McCain needs to let the Pros do their job, as he himself will admit, he’s out of his depth in these types of things.
is he really so simple that he can’t do his job and go to a debate that starts at 9pm. I’ll bet if they were handing out Campaign funds he’d make it there.
Caribou Barbie is a joke, PERIOD. Easily the least capable person ever to dream of the VP job. She makes Quayle look like a Rhodes Scholar.
Only a real dunce could support these two.
Obama has the one thing that they’ll never have, the CAPACITY to lead this nation. McCain and Caribou can hardly tie their shoes and chew bubble gum at the same time.

Yes, as some of you say, it is pathetic, a stunt that everyone can see, and a special note to McCain and his supporters, you keep talking about Barack’s credentials, look who’s talking, see below, this will spread all over the internet:
Johh McCain and his Republican supporters, how dare you even question Barack’s credentials, see below, this will be posted all over the internet. This people running in the Republican party are the exact replica of Bush, now let’s see who has the best credentials, since you want to go there just look at these comparisions, it doesn’t look good, especailly for Palin,.
OBAMA:
Occidental College – Two years.
Columbia University – B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna *** Laude
BIDEN:
University of Delaware – B.A. in history and B.A. in
political science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.
McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank 894 out of 899 (meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class)
Palin: Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in journalism
Now a B.A. in jouralism qualifies you to become president, this is so laughable…..
