Vacations, Presidential And Other

George Bush, as you may have heard, had himself a grand old time in Beijing, attending the Olympics, and thrilling himself to bits being the fan-in-chief.

After his no doubt well-deserved four day jaunt at the Olympics, Bush flew home on Tuesday. Before slipping off to spend two weeks at his Crawford, TX ranch, Bush found time to mock the Democratic leadership in Congress for doing what Senators and Congressmen are supposed to do during the summer recess, i.e. go home to their constituencies:

Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership in Congress decided to go on a five-week vacation, a recess, rather than act on behalf of the American consumer, the American small business owner.

This from the guy who would totally Phelps the competition if presidential vacationing were an Olympic event.

Or maybe I misjudge the man, as usual? Maybe the whole point of repairing to Crawford is to unleash a whole series of acts on behalf of the American consumer, the American small business owner and sundry other Americans to boot? Do please stay tuned.

(Of course, given the Bush administration’s track record, doing nothing at all might well be regarded as a positive act on behalf of the American consumer etc.)
