And the whole (of staying) issue isn't really meaningful if the conquest itself wasn't justified or otherwise warranted to begin with. Because the invasion and continued occupation is, was, and will continue to be unjust and in the long term disinterest of almost all of the parties involved (except for the theo-fascists who are supposedly supposed to be the enemy that we are out to destroy), our concern ought to be how to rectify this injustice in the wisest way possible. But I don't think the Rove gang is particularly responsive towards moral duty. Although this stuff can’t be unexpected coming from politicians, it is still depressing.
