Buying And Selling The Presidency
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on July 3rd, 2008 in 2008 Presidential, Media, St. John McCainThat redoubtable pillar of American journalism, Karl Rove, has produced an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal titled “Can Barack Buy the Presidency?” Apparently, if you raise a lot more money than your opponent, and you win, you have bought the presidency. So that’s what George W. Bush did in 2000 and 2004, did he, bought the presidency? That’s in addition to stealing it, of course.
(The Wall Street Journal, by the way, once used to be a newspaper, but then Rupert Murdoch took it over. Now they publish Karl Rove’s tripe and their own editorial fantasies. Just yesterday, they set the record straight by explaining that it’s Barack Obama, not John McCain, who’s running for George Bush’s third term.)
Perhaps some clever journalist or, more likely, blogger, will be inspired by Rove’s piece to bring us “How John McCain is Selling the Presidency” (i.e., piece by piece, to lobbyists). Are you listening, Jason Linkins?
