Larry Sinclair, The National Press Club & Hysterical Liberal Blogs

by sarabeth at 6:00 am on June 13th, 2008 in 2008 Presidential, Media, Obama Uber Alles

Larry Sinclair is a lowlife jerkoff, with less than zero credibility, who has successfully auditioned to be the star of a Swiftboat-style smear campaign aimed at Barack Obama.

This guy has somehow magically acquired a high-priced lawyer: Montgomery Sibley, the defense attorney of Deborah Jean Palfrey, the DC Madam.

He is scheduled to hold a press conference next Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. The event is sponsored by Veritas Media Group, which is run by Joseph R. Giganti. Giganti belongs to the wingnuttia branch of the Republican party. He has longstanding and extensive ties to Alan Keyes, including serving as a spokesman and the national media strategist for his 2000 presidential campaign. His resume is still posted on Keyes’ RenewAmerica website.

So this sleazy lowlife with a colorful criminal record (including an arrest for theft and forgery, among others) now has both a fancy high-priced lawyer and an ultra-conservative handler.

Liberal blogs are understandably unhappy about the smear attempt. But respectable blogs that should really know much better are going off the deep end without doing a little basic homework or thinking.

FDL is targeting the National Press Club with an online petition:

… it is shocking that the National Press Club is offering a him a spot on the national stage on June 18.

Please take a moment to ask the National Press Club to check the facts before giving Larry Sinclair a bully pulpit. Also, if you have a moment please consider calling the National Press Club at 202-662-7500, and politely but firmly petition them verbally.

Kos approvingly endorses the petition:

Well, the National Press Club appears eager to give him a bigger platform.
[…]
You can also sign a petition at FDL urging the National Press Club to reconsider its baffling decision to give this thoroughly discredited guy a platform.

The fact of the matter is that the Press Club is not promoting or endorsing the Sinclair-Sibley-Giganti event. It is not giving them a bully pulpit or a bigger platform.

The Press Club is in the business of renting out rooms for events, exactly like a hotel. Any member can sponsor a rental. Veritas Media Group is evidently a member.

The Press Club is evidently not in the business of censorship. That’s exactly what FDL and Kos are pressuring the Press Club to do, although they’re too busy championing things like democracy, freedom of speech and a free press to realize it.

    Dear Anti-Gun Activist:

I just read your posting that mentioned me and my former company, Veritas Media Group.

I would like to kindly request you correct this libelous posting as my company VMG is no longer in existence and the PR firm actually sponsoring the Sinclair event–Veritas Federal Media–is a wholly different company that I have no affiliation with and I’ve never had any association with Sinclair either.

It is one thing to advocate your position, which you have a constitutional right to do, but in the interest of your readers you would do well to make sure the time is taken to get the facts right.

I appreciate your immediate handling of this matter before I need to involve my attorneys.

    Sincerely,

    Joe

I would like to ask you who you think spent the night with Larry if it wasn’t Barack that has done so much to try and stop this.

Too bad, the show goes on and shows the truth of what a low life Barack is. Don’t you believe that the people in the USA deserve to know that Barack is using crack cocaine

Sorry that you find larry to be such a liar. God is with Larry hand and hand in this meeting. Truth will be told

Joe, if I were you, I’d sick my attorneys on Larry and his blog. Can’t blame you for not wanting to be associated with the scumbag bottomfeeding garbage that he promotes.

    My bad. Sloppy research.

But Giganti still belongs to the wingnuttia branch of the Republican party.

And what’s with threatening to sic his lawyers on us? It’s an obvious error, dimwit.

Obama is not for free speech nor are his supporters. if BO becomes Prez, no on will be able to criticize him — we will be called racists and worse, we might be punished for free speech. He is really scary and so are his supporters.

This anti-free speech movement by Obama supporters is terrifying.
First Amendments rights have never been limited by prior screening for accuracy. No one, not the government, not political campaigns, not the press itself, has a right to prior restraint of free speech based on content. The very idea that such an effort would be able to restrain undesirable speech is incredibly dangerous.
After the fact civil suits are the remedy for libel or slander.
Nothing this Sinclair guy could say, whether false or crazy, could possibly be as harmful as the precedent that would be set by prohibiting his press conference because some people disagree or find it offensive.

I don’t see how FDL + Kos = “Obama supporters”

A misconceived initiative by one blogger at FDL supported by Kos doesn’t add up to a movement by Obama supporters.

  8. mpandgs wrote:

    Sarabeth,
Sinclair’s supporters claim that this is part of a larger campaign to silence Obama’s critics orchestrated by Obama and Axelrod. All the folks who point out fallacies, inaccuracies, and who challenge rumours like Sinclair’s are in on it–even if they’re not democrats (btw: they’re all getting paid!!). If you’ve never visited Sinclair’s blog, give it a go to see how this thinking is laid out (several of your posters here are from that site).

BTW– I completely agree with your comments on foks going off the deep end with this. They’ve certainly attracted more attention to the Sinclair thing, and they’re unfairly demonizing the NPC.

Seems clear to me that most folks on this blog actually believe Sinclair’s allegations… a la Gennifer Flower or Monica L when the rumors first started…but are in full attack mode in hopes the truth will somehow be kept from the public, at least until Barry Dunham is in the White House.

Before we even have a conversation about this nutcase, has anyone watched his recent appearance on Youtube—-where he explains his polygraph results because of his “bilateral Omar (?) nerve entrophy and bilateral Carpal and Tunnel Syndrome and cervical (what?) thoracic and lumbar disc hernation..” and on on goes…..Please tell me that we have not gotten to the point that any drunk nut job who can scrape up some money to hold a “news conference” in DC can actually be injected into the race for the Presidency….

  11. sarabeth wrote:

Then you have indeed been smoking banned substances. This post attracted some absurd comments from lunatics who have never shown up here before. mpandgs in #8 spelled it out for you.

Most folks on this blog have a lot more sense than you do.

right, Carola. Like we get called terrorist-lovers for criticizing the president today? Or “allowed” to voice any protest from “free speech zones” around the GOP convention site? If the shoe fits, lady…

I don’t know if Sinclair had sex with Obama or not.
Only the two of them know the real truth. But, I have to say that Sinclair is long on allegations and very short on proof.

There is no proof that this is true. Of course you Obama haters would love it to be true. But, show me the evidence. Why is he coming out with this after 9 years. I have googled this claim and did not hear about it until about 5 months ago.

Sinclair could have try to damage Obama’s senatorial races, both state and national ones. Something just doesn’t fit. Now, one thing that we do know about Sinclair and there’s proof is that he is a criminal and been convicted of fraud, forgery, etc.

I think he is a con artist looking for some money to discredit Obama. We’ll see how things turn out. But, at the end of the day, I think we’ll see that Sinclair is what he is, a con man.

Celliott: If Obama were just another guy in government who was bi-sexual and did drugs, why “out” him. But when you run for the top of the ticket and you’ve done crack cocaine - that’s something the people need to know. And who better for Obama to be on the down low with than somebody with a shady past. Let’s see what Sinclair has to say today when more details are revealed.

Some interesting tidbits from the previous link:
    — Sinclair swore in a 2004 affidavit that he was terminally ill; given that he’s still alive and kicking, it appears that he lied
    — Colorado records list him with 13 aliases, including “Larye Vizcarra Avila” and “Mohammed Gahanan.”
    — After Sinclair failed a polygraph test about his Obama claims, he claimed “the polygraph’s sponsors had been bribed to skew the results against him, an allegation his lawyer, Sibley, said he would expand on at his press conference”
    — Earlier this year, his lawyer Sibley had his license to practice law suspended by the Florida Bar Association, a suspension that applies in Washington, D.C. as well.

This is not news.If we let every two bit low life hurl accusations at anyone then we are in for a pile of hurt.Strip away Sinclair’s criminal past, his admitted lack of morals and mental health issues, and it is still reprehensible to allow anyone, to utter baseless allegations ,with absolutely no evidence, at anyone. No matter their respective standing in life.We should be protecting each other from acts such as this and not lending it any weight, even with our outrage.

Man, you are feeding into the insanity. This was Larry’s BIG moment to bring out the goods. He didn’t do it because he didn’t have anything. His “I know where that question is coming from” statement he made when asked what time he had met Obama to have sex/drugs shows the level of his paranoid schizophrenia.

Also, take into consideration this: Larry said Obama, when they first met, told Larry his name and occupation (his Youtube and blog stuff). Then Larry says, on this day, Larry’s big “I will give the public the proof” day, Larry says he didn’t know who Obama was when they met and didn’t know who he (Obama) was until he saw Obama make his 2004 speech at the Democratic convention, when Larry was across the border in Mexico. That’s a big fat fucking “HUH?”

This guy is a goof ball. He is looking for a payoff AND he is milking people on the internet for thousands of dollars in the hopes that Larry really might have something. He doesn’t have anything. It’s a non story. Move on.

Mitch and Nan went undercover to Larry’s event and called the marshals from there. Plus, to have arrested Larry before the news conference would have inflamed the conspiracy theory nut jobs out there. “See? They had him arrested to silence him.” Although if you read Larry’s blog, you will see that his followers/financiers are claiming Larry had himself arrested because he felt his life was in danger.

  26. ThinkAboutIt wrote:

I watched Larry’s conference where he said that this company was his own creation.

One of the many wierd things about this story is how he lets the driver know essentially that he wants a prostitute - “someone to show him around”. A limo driver doesn’t call up a state legislator and law professor to service a scuzzy drug dealer - or whatever Larry claims was his occupation at the time - he calls up a pimp - or a prostitute he knows. Makes me wonder if there was simply a black prostitute that was using Barack’s name as a street name.

What none of you realize is Larry allegations are a lot more then drugs and oral sex. Larry has told the Chicago police that Obama was involved in the MURDER of a gay choir leader at Rev. (Hate monger) Wrights church. THAT will be barry’s downfall.

  29. sarabeth wrote:

If Larry said it, why then it must be true, mustn’t it?
