Accidents Waiting To Happen?
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on June 10th, 2008 in Bush Man Date, CorruptionLast week, Waxman sent a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, requesting that the Justice Department turn over FBI interviews of President Bush and Cheney that were conducted during the CIA leak scandal investigation. In the letter, Waxman cited “new revelations” from McClellan’s book, including the claim that “[t]he President and Vice President directed me to go out there and exonerate Scooter Libby.”
For the moment, Waxman is just an irritating annoyance for the Bush administration. He requests, he demands, he subpoenas. And the Bush administration just stonewalls, and invokes executive privilege, and forbids non-disgruntled ex-employees from testifying before Congress.
But for all their bravado about winning in November, the Bush-men have to now be having pretty serious nightmares about how this shoo-Waxman-away-like-a-fly game is likely to change after January 20.
Somewhere, there must be a master list of things the Bush administration simply must do before it slinks back into the hole it crawled out of. High on that list must be an item reading “Accidentally destroy FBI files of POTUS and Vice interviews”.
But that must be a very long master list. There are an awful number of accidents they would need to engineer. And maybe even the Bush administration wouldn’t have the gall to orchestrate a tsunami of accidents in its last few months?
