Kucinich Initiates Bush Impeachment

Dennis Kucinich, who had abandoned an earlier attempt to begin impeachment proceedings against George Bush in January, pulled the trigger this evening:

An Ohio Democratic lawmaker and former presidential candidate has presented articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush to Congress.

Thirty-five articles were presented by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to the House of Representatives late Monday evening, airing live on CSPAN.
[...]
“Resolved,” Kucinich … began, “that President George W. Bush be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate. …

The first article Kucinich presented, and many that followed, regarded the war in Iraq: “Article 1 – Creating a secret propaganda campaign to manufacture a false case for war against Iraq.”

Regardless of the outcome, it was simply necessary to do this. No future president accused of wrongdoing — or his apologists — should be able to point back at Bush and hide behind: “Well, what he did was so much worse, and he was never impeached!”

What Bush has done, to Americans and to America, required that this be done. And now it has been. Kudos to Kucinich.
