Sovereignty a la Iraq
by sarabeth at 12:42 pm on June 6th, 2008 in Bush Man Date, Iraq War, RiceI really don’t think the Iraqi government understands the George Bush-Condoleezza Rice brand of democracy and sovereignty.
Just because we called the mission Operation Iraqi Freedom, and declared the mission to be accomplished, they seem to think they are free. Just because we declared them to be a sovereign nation, they seem to think they are free to do what they want. And just because we need them to sign a piece of paper to make it all proper for us to continue to be honored guests in the great state of Iraq, they seem to think they can dictate to us what we can and cannot do in Iraq.
Iraq said on Friday it would not grant U.S. troops freedom of movement for military operations in a new agreement being negotiated on extending the presence of American troops on its soil.
Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih said the United States wanted its forces to operate with no restrictions, but this was not acceptable to Iraq.

“What I can confirm now, with no hesitation, is that there will not be freedom of movement for American (forces) in Iraq,” Salih told Arabiya television.
Something tells me the Iraqi government is about to have a spontaneous change of heart.
Because otherwise they would have to have a spontaneous change of government. And nobody wants that, least of all the Iraqi government.
