Paul Krugman, no slouch when it comes to using words to describe what’s happening to the economy, chose to use just a picture pretty much for this post. The graph shows cumulative job growth under Clinton and Bush, in thousands:

So that’s George Bush‘s vaunted job growth. That’s his much trumpeted 52 consecutive months of job growth. As Krugman said, in the few words he appended to the graph:
The administration’s habit of counting job gains since August 2003 is revealed for the cheap trick it is … the Clinton years ended with a net gain of about 23 million jobs, whereas the Bush years so far have seen a net gain of about 5 million.
That’s all the Bush rhetoric about the economy has ever been — really cheap smoke-and-mirrors stuff. All they’ve ever been selling is snake oil.
