Bush Has Been Debating In His Head Whether Iraq War Is Worth Winning
by sarabeth at 9:06 am on March 19th, 2008 in Bush Man Date, Iraq War, Podium Spin, War on TerrorGeorge Bush thinks there is
“an understandable debate over … whether the fight (in Iraq) is worth winning”.
Or “thinks” may be too strong a word to apply to Bush. So whether he is capable of thought or not, he certainly says that there is an understandable debate over whether the fight in Iraq is worth winning.
Do you understand that? Because I really don’t. I really don’t understand where this debate has been going on. But since George Bush seems to be the only person in America who is aware of this debate, and can testify to it, I can only guess that it has been going on in what we are forced to refer to as his mind (because the English language, not having anticipated George Bush, provides no other word to use in this context).
Oh, and Bush also “thinks” that the
“surge … has opened the door to a major strategic victory in the broader war on terror”.
So while we haven’t achieved victory in Iraq (or he would have said so, wouldn’t he?) or accomplished our mission there yet (even though he said so, didn’t he?), we have somehow — without anyone noticing at all — racked up a major strategic victory in the broader war on terror. Please stand by for a rousing chorus of “O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”, which is surely going to break out across the land any moment now.
(No doubt there are many other gems in the speech Bush gave this morning at the Pentagon to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his invasion of Iraq. Look forward to reading all about them anon.)
