It’s not only mainstream media outlets that exaggerate the news out of all proportion.
Here’s Satyam at ThinkProgress with an absurd piece of hyperbole. Ollie North, who can’t be blamed because he doesn’t know any better, made some absurd statements about what we are forced to call the Times Square bombing, simply because we have no other words in our vocabulary to refer to a minor bomb incident. Satyam, who should (and usually does) know better, then opined:
North’s comments are a sad attempt to politicize a tragic bombing.
A tragic bombing? Granted that we are forced to use the word bombing to describe an explosion that barely rose above the level of a large firecracker, and that was set to go off at 3:40 a.m. so that there was no chance of anyone getting hurt or anything. But to call this tragic?
The victims of this tragic incident:
The blast … left a gaping hole in the front window and shattered a glass door, twisting and blackening the metal frame of the building.
Well, we at 1115 know what our duty is when confronted by tragic bombings: our sincere condolences go out to the friends and families of the window, door and metal frame.
