He Forgot That We Were at War…

…and in a recession:

President Bush, rallying conservatives for a battle against Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, says “prosperity and peace” are at stake in the upcoming election for his successor.

And Sarabeth thought Mitt Romney had the quote of the day.

Just to be sure I understand this piece of Bush-bubblism, Bush thinks he’s handing off the country in a state of prosperity and peace, which voters might imperil by electing a Democrat? That’s why prosperity and peace are at stake in the election?

  2. sarabeth says:

It is my sad duty to report that the interpretation in the first comment is indeed correct. Bush is bragging about the state of the economy, and what he did to it for the last 7 years. (Hint: the word intercourse does not figure in any of its various aliases.)

  3. sarabeth says:

And I need to apologize for my overly glib and hasty judgment two days ago. Apparently they do too trumpet streaks after they have come to a crashing end.

  4. sarabeth says:

Comments 2 and 3 obviously crossed somewhere in the depths of the internet.

Currious, I read the article about the tax rebates around 12pm (CST) and noticed a statement that I thought was strange “The checks are an advance on next year’s refunds, and most, if not all of the money, will be deducted from taxpayers’ refunds in 12 months’ time.” But when I checked the article again 45 mins later, that quote was removed by CNN. Hmm, I wonder what is going on?

  6. sarabeth says:

    From His Presidentiality’s speech orifice:

…the tax cuts we passed contributed … helped produce strong economic growth

Reality: Bush has achieved the lowest GDP growth of any president in the last 50 years. And that is without faactoring in the last year of his presidency, which will drag him down even further.

  7. sarabeth says:

Re 6: just CNN having fun, I guess (since reporting news straight is so boring).

  8. sarabeth says:

In case anyone is still looking for an explanation for Bush’s speech, he provided it himself: “My energy is up, my spirit is high”.

Guess he never really gave up getting high after all.

  9. sarabeth says:

Maybe Bush can’t be impeached. But given that probable cause exists, can’t he be subjected to mandatory random drug tests?
