White House Considering Stimulus Package - AP (1/4/08):

The Bush administration, faced with a deteriorating economy and a big jump in unemployment, said Friday it was considering an economic stimulus package that might include tax cuts to ward off a recession.

Officials stressed that President Bush has not decided yet to offer a proposal but was looking at a variety of options with a plan possibly being unveiled around the time of his Jan. 28 State of the Union address.

On the one hand, we have prior State of the Union proposals on steroids, switchgrass, and of course going to Mars, which would lead one to believe that this stimulus package might be relegated to the same policy purgatory. On the other hand, this is the Bush administration:

Bush in his first term included a tax refund of up to $300 per person to combat the impact of the 2001 recession. Private economists said another round of tax cuts would be the best approach to get money to people who would spend it.

Some suggested a one-year tax rebate of $500 might provide a sufficient shot-in-the-arm for the economy.

Private economists.

Is Dr. Kevorkian out of jail and back to work?

    1) Private economists:
    – Main definition: Those who play with their privates while thinking of economic issues
    – Secondary meaning: economists who don’t know jack

    2) Don’t worry, this tax cut proposal will just fade away and never be heard from again. I have just volunteered to take all the money, and spend every last cent. The private economists who advise Bush in private have already eaten the words bolded above and confirmed to Bush that it will be far better to write one large check to one person than to mail millions of them all over the country needlessly. Plus, Bush is just dying to wrest the initiative away from Al Gore in terms of environmental friendliness, and this will save so many trees and and so much energy that Gore will be hard pressed to take the lead back from Bush.

I wonder what Jack does for a living now. Interesting resume that he would have to hand in.

Anyone think he will try to revive his old career? hehe
