Does Anyone Know?
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on November 20th, 2007 in Iraq War, RiceAn incidental fact from the WaPo story about Condi Rice’s mishandling of the Baghdad embassy volunteer effort: we have at least 250 foreign service diplomats stationed in our Baghdad embassy.
Does anyone have any bloody idea what they actually do?
And I’m not the only one asking, apparently:
At a contentious town hall meeting at State two weeks ago, some diplomats questioned the size of the Baghdad embassy…
Interesting that career diplomats are asking why we need so many diplomats in Baghdad. And this in the time of Condi and Bush, when presumably there is proper retribution for every act of daring to question.
I can’t imagine why we need even 100 diplomats there, let alone 250. But if we had 100 instead of 250, Blackwater’s contracts would only be 40% as big as they are now, wouldn’t they?
