Dana Perino: The Veil Slips Off

It has frequently worried me, and even occasionally interfered with my normal tendency to sleep like a baby: Who’s the Monica Goodling who’s really running things in the Bush White House?

I guess it’s funny that, now that I know, I’m still worried about who it is (and still losing sleep over it). Because it turns out that the person pulling all the levers, greasing all the wheels, and making everything work behind the scenes is … Dana Perino!

She let the mask slip yesterday. She was being asked about the $2.4 trillion estimate that the Congressional Budget Office has come up with for the combined total cost of the the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Q Is that number — if that number turned out to be somewhere close to accurate, do you think that would be a reasonable amount of money to be spending on the war –

MS. PERINO: You’re asking me another hypothetical question; if that were to be true. I’m not going to answer that.

Q — that doesn’t strike you as –

MS. PERINO: Look, what I can tell you is that I’m not going to worry about the number. What I’m worried about is making sure that the President gets what he needs in order to provide the safety and security for the country.

So Dana is the chief enabler for the Decider-in-Chief? She’s the one who has to make sure the President gets what he needs to keep us safe?

Get real, Dana! You’re the codpiece’s mouthpiece. That’s it. Your job is to lie and to dissemble for him, without it showing. Even that you can’t do. Let others worry about making sure the President gets what he needs. Unless … hang on an effing second … Dana! … my, oh my! … is the President getting any?
