FISA
by matt at 9:30 am on October 11th, 2007 in Congressional Man Date, War on TerrorThe Senate Intel Committee is getting ready to take up a new FISA bill, one that may include retroactive immunity for the telecom companies that probably broke the law by giving the government access to their lines, call data, and subscriber info. These companies can avail themselves of the justice system, and the lawyers they can afford will probably succeed in getting them off. But retroactive immunity – before the facts are known – is an affront to our system. Please take a few minutes and call one of the following Senators if you live in their state, and ask why they are even considering something as absurd as retroactive immunity in the FISA bill. They are keeping track on call sheets, I just got off the phone with a stressed-out young woman in Feinstein’s office.

is it really an affront to our system? i think it just expediting the process that we all know was coming anyway. “facts” are irrelevent when you’re dealing with a group of people indebted to these super-rich corporations for a huge sum of money.
