Wishful Thinking

AP:

Both Sen. Clinton, D-N.Y., and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have criticized Obama for his lack of political experience.

Obama said he understands their argument.

“They want to make the argument that Senator Clinton is just an extension of the Bill Clinton presidency,” Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press.

“They’ve been the dominant political family in the Democratic Party for the last 20 years now. So it’s not surprising that they want to focus on their longevity.

But, Obama said, “my belief is that the American people are looking for a fundamental break from the way we’ve been doing business.”

One, I really don”t think anyone has been trying to make the argument that Senator Clinton is just an extension of the Bill Clinton presidency.

Two, my belief is that the American people would go back to what we had under Bill Clinton in a heartbeat, if we could.

Pity that Obama is now reduced to peddling such obviously vapid wishful thinking.

Your second point is a pretty good reason for Hillary to make the argument, don’t you think?

It wouldn’t be very smart for them not to play on Bill Clinton’s legacy. They don’t need to make the argument explicitly because it’s implied in Hillary’s identity. She is who she is as a political candidate because of her husband. That’s just how it is and lucky for them the last 8 years have been such an unmitigated disaster that his legacy and her identity are an appealing political selling point. I’m not sure she would be in such a fortunate political situation if the Bush Presidency was marked by 8 years of more peace and prosperity than ‘92-’00.

It seems like Obama’s real problem is that he’s having a problem differentiating his campaign versus hers without reminding everyone about the good old days of the Clinton years.

if that was his only problem, he’d be fine.
