Perino: A Petty Pointless STUPID Lie

Dana Perino is totally out of her depth in her new job. Criticizing her is too much like shooting fish in a barrel for my taste, so most of the time I’ll be taking the high road. But every once in a while there will be a lie that I am compelled to call her out for. Sometimes, it may be that she lied about something important. Sometimes, like today, it may be a lie that just bugs me because it is so pointless and petty. And STUPID.

Yesterday, a marked-up draft of President Bush‘s speech briefly appeared on the U.N.’s website as he spoke to the General Assembly. “The draft included phonetic spellings of some names and countries…” Here’s how Perino handled the incident:

Press secretary Dana Perino downplayed the incident, and said phonetic spellings are used to help interpreters. Asked if the president has trouble pronouncing some country’s names, Perino deemed it “an offensive question.”

The phonetic spellings were thoughtfully provided for interpreters? Dana, you don’t have an effing clue about anything, do you? Do explain to us, please, how it would help Spanish interpreters, for example, to be provided with the phonetic spelling for “Germany” when they aren’t going to be saying “Germany” anyway, they’re going to be saying “Alemania”.

This twit really has to learn to think before she lies. If you can’t pull off a simple inconsequential white lie, you have no business being any kind of public spokeswoman at all, let alone the White House Press Secretary.

She’s just embarrassing herself. Luckily she doesn’t have the sense to realize it, otherwise she really wouldn’t be able to go out there and face the cameras and microphones.

(And is it really too much to expect that some reporter might have challenged her on this?)
