What it probably means:
Given Blackwater USA’s track record when faced with things that happened but which they would prefer had never happened, innocent bystanders could be forgiven for interpreting the above remarks as an official confirmation.

What the latest statement supercedes:

Responding to allegations that Blackwater employees were the subject of an Iraq arms smuggling probe, the spokeswoman told the BBC News website: “We are aware of that report and we have yet to see definitive proof that the firm in question is Blackwater.
