Kudos to Spencer Ackerman at TPMmuckraker. After many twists and turns, he has finally managed to come up with a list of 36 countries with “troops on the ground in Iraq”.
Except that:
1) “Canada withdrew its single soldier … in June.”
2) “Tonga has withdrawn its force from Iraq; and, accordingly, MNF-I no longer includes Tonga on its list of coalition members.”
3) “globalsecurity.org isn’t sure whether Hungary has anyone in Iraq”
Canada, by the way, wasn’t the only country to have contributed just one lone soldier. New Zealand also has one, and Iceland has one too (who will be withdrawn on October 1).

You really can’t make this stuff up:
TPM Reader EF points out that Iceland doesn’t even have a formally constituted military, which the CIA World Fact Book confirms. The lone Icelander is a member of the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit. Calling him a soldier may be overstating matters.
Bush should really have said “troops and members of Crisis Response Units”.
