Would You Vote For This Man For President?
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on July 27th, 2007 in 2008 PresidentialWaPo had an article Wednesday on Freddie Thompson’s career as a stand-alone lawyer, after his star turn as the Senate Watergate Committee’s White House mole, and before he decided life was much more comfortable in the Senate (all those recesses, no doubt). Here’s the punchline from their article:
Most of the time, Thompson’s legal work earned him favorable headlines in his home state. In 1985, however, he was rebuked by a local judge for missing a drug defendant’s trial to go on vacation in Paris, giving the client grounds for appeal.
The judge said he was “astonished that a lawyer with his experience and record would go traipsing off to Europe.
Let me rephrase the headline. Who would Freddie have to be running against in order for you to vote for Freddie rather than his opponent?
And here’s a nice little bonus from the same WaPo article: Grover Norquist, on Freddie’s undeclared candidacy. Let’s call it the quote of the day:
“There will always be a concern that he wants to be the leader of the cobra party, and he was, for a while, a mongoose.”
