Sliding Down A Picasso
by matt at 6:00 am on July 20th, 2007 in GeneralDuring my recent swing through Chicago, my friends took me on the downtown Chicago public art walk.
Within just a few blocks, you get to walk right up to sculptures by Calder, Dubuffet, Miro, Moore and Picasso (among others), as well as a huge mural by Chagall.
I asked this guy why he wasn’t exactly acting his age. He told me: “As you get older, you start compiling a mental list of ‘things I must do before I die’. Sliding down a Picasso surely belongs on everybody’s list?”
For the record, the Picasso in the picture is an untitled sculpture, known locally as … what else … “The Picasso”, donated by the artist to the city in 1967.
Details of the City of Chicago Public Art Program can be found here.

Ha ha ha!! I hope that guy NEVER learns to act his age! What fun! Most art work you can’t touch. If you find one you can slide down–go for it!

This art walk sounds like fun. Art works by major artists that you can walk up to, touch, climb onto, slide down, crawl under, kiss if you like I’m sure, or otherwise platonically enjoy, sounds v. v. cool.
do other cities have this too?
