Buttercheeks Rides Again!

Alberto Gonzales has managed to claw his way back to the top of the scandal heap. It’s the old double-D formula: all it takes is determination and dedication — there’s always room at the top.

WaPo reports (doesn’t seem right to be quoting a John Solomon story, but for some reason the media gods gave this one to him):

As he sought to renew the USA Patriot Act two years ago, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales assured lawmakers that the FBI had not abused its potent new terrorism-fighting powers. “There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse,” Gonzales told senators on April 27, 2005.

Six days earlier, the FBI sent Gonzales a copy of a report that said its agents had obtained personal information that they were not entitled to have. It was one of at least half a dozen reports of legal or procedural violations that Gonzales received in the three months before he made his statement to the Senate intelligence committee, according to internal FBI documents released under the Freedom of Information Act.

Let’s just respectfully step back and let Alberto enjoy his moment in the sun.

Meanwhile you can be assured that an investigation had already been launched. Into who is responsible for this FOIA request being processed. Instead of being stalled almost forever, as so many of them are. At this point in the game, everyone is supposed to know which requests are simply not to be processed. And, of course, everyone who counts is a team player these days. So Buttercheeks has a right to be hopping mad. All that doggedly double-D politicization of every federal agency, and then this is the end result. Heads should certainly roll. Maybe “Bush” can even bring back the ancient punishment of drawing and quartering?

    Sarabeth,

Can you promise to retire the term ‘buttercheeks’ when Gonzo is gone? I’d be happy for him to get fired just so I wouldn’t have to read the name ‘buttercheeks’ ever again.
