Let Him Eat His Cake

Rudy Giuliani, speaking off-the-cuff in Maryland yesterday, and clearly taking the cake, said:

I have a very, very strong belief that American politics is not enough about ideas. It’s too much about things that really belong on gossip pages, or maybe it’s about personalities and maybe it’s about general feelings. And all those things are important. I’m not saying they’re not important, and an appropriate amount of time should be spent on them, but the most time should be spent on ideas. . . .

Things that really belong on gossip pages are important, and an appropriate amount of time should be spent on them. What a wonderful idea.

Let us speak then, Rudee, of all the gossip about your various marriages, and your acts of lustful fornication outside the sacrament of marriage. Let us speak of marriage to, and sex with, second cousins. Let us speak of how a man can forget that a woman he fornicated with for fourteen years is his second cousin. Let us speak of announcing to your wife via press conference that you’re going to be moving on. Let us speak of parading your adultery in public.

Go ahead and stop me, Rudee, whenever you think we’ve spent the appropriate amount of time of this stuff, okay?

War Room (where I took the excerpt from) has posted this correction to their Giuliani post:

The service that provides our transcripts posted Giuliani’s speech today and indicated that he had delivered it yesterday. In fact, Giuliani made these comments last week.

Oh, and do click on the first link and read the rest of Rudee’s unscripted remarks too.

Guaranteed to make you cringe in shame. That you live in a country where a guy who spouts such unadulterated hogwash could actually be regarded as a serious candidate for Leader of the Nation. That he could actually take in more than $30 million in campaign contributions.
