Bush loses on immigration; his presidency fading fast too McClatchy Washington Bureau (6/28/07):
“It’s the incredible shrinking presidency. He’s lost battles in the courts. He’s lost battles in Iraq. He’s lost battles on Capitol Hill,” said Paul Light, a professor of public service at New York University.”His bank account is empty and there’s nowhere to go for more. I think his presidency is essentially over.”
Depends on the definition of over? Maybe Prof. Light hasn’t been paying close enough attention. Bush has had sub-50 approval ratings for more than two years, and sub-40 ratings for more than one. With his aggressive use of signing statements and executive orders and his general contempt for the rule of law, Bush’s Presidency won’t be over until it’s over. Maybe Light would like to bet me on the level of damage Bush can do in the next 18 months.
