Giuliani’s Resignation From The ISG

Rudee’s now claiming he resigned from the ISG because he’s such a political heavyweight that his participation would have unbalanced the panel, and made people refuse to accept it as bipartisan . His participation would have made the findings controversial, making the report a political football, etc.

But back when he resigned, he obviously didn’t anticipate that he would have to defend himself. Or that what he would be defending against is charges of choosing lucrative speaking gigs over serving on the ISG panel. So back in May 2006, he was perfectly straightforward about the reasons for his resignation:

Giuliani resigned in a May 24 letter to Baker, explaining that ‘my previous time commitments do not permit me the full and active participation that the Iraq Study Group deserves.’

Of course, during the 70 days he “served” on the panel, he didn’t contribute any partial and passive participation either.
