On Blindness
by sarabeth at 8:46 am on June 21st, 2007 in Bush Man Date, Corruption, General GonzoJustice may or may not be blind — especially in the time of Bush, Gonzales, Rove, Miers, Sampson, Goodling and Schlozman — but some former DoJ officials more than make up for that:
The Deputy Attorney General, Paul McNulty, who recently resigned, insisted in his prepared remarks (for the House Judiciary Committee today) that no wrongdoing occurred in the course of the Justice Department’s responses to a Congressional probe into the firing of a group of US Attorneys.
[...]
McNulty also insisted that there were no partisan political interests involved in any Justice Department prosecutions throughout the course of the Bush administration.“It is important for this Committee and the public to know that when it comes to enforcing the law, Justice Department employees are blind to partisan politics,” he will assert in his prepared remarks. “It plays no role in the Department’s actions. The law enforcement professionals, lawyers, and staff at DOJ check their politics at the door and investigate and prosecute cases based strictly on the facts and the law.”
The man — to his resounding credit, no doubt — is blinder than a cavern full of bats.
Or maybe all of Gonzales’ subordinates had to check their brains at the door every morning (or at least those who hadn’t checked their scruples)? And after all these these years they’ve simply lost the use of them?
That would certainly explain a lot. A heckuva whole lot.
