As per Wikipedia, “Emil Gregory Steiner (born November 30, 1978) is an American novelist, short-story writer and journalist who currently writes the OFF/beat blog for The Washington Post.”
No one at WaPo seems to have explained to him that accuracy is important in this business. At 12:10pm Pacific, wondering if there was any news on the Genarlow Wilson story, I headed over to Google News. Specifically, I was wondering if the state of Georgia had decided whether or nor it was going to appeal the ruling that Wilson should be released from prison.
The top headline Google News presented me with for the Genarlow Wilson story was Emil Steiner’s “Justice Served (Finally): Genarlow Wilson Freed“.
Turns out he hasn’t been freed. Steiner just doesn’t understand the difference between a judge rendering a verdict that someone should be released, and that person actually being released.
The fact of the matter is that it doesn’t look like Wilson is going to be freed any time soon:
Lawyers for a man who has spent two years in prison for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17 say he apparently can’t get out just yet.
They say prosecutors are appealing a judge’s decision today to void the sentence.
I wonder if Steiner also calls himself a journalist. I wonder how he defines that term.
