The Apex of Jingoism
by matt at 6:00 am on June 4th, 2007 in GeneralHaving been a vegetarian for more than 10 years now, I don’t have a cow in this fight, but as far as an absurd example of jingoism, this is pretty impressive. I recently saw an ad for A&W restaurants that featured a man having a conversation with Ronald McDonald. The gist of it is that the man is angry/disappointed with a certain red-headed clown when he discovers that the golden arches have been importing beef from exotic locales such as New Zealand. He’s switching to A&W because they only use American beef.
The timing of this ad is nothing short of 10/10 on the irony scale. While the Bush Administration is doing everything they can to stop farmers from testing their herds for mad cow disease, New Zealand is completely mad cow-free. And A&W considers this a feature, not a bug.
Verdict: Beefy!
